Wind Check: What Have I Been Afraid to Tell God?

Issue 20 Companion Reflection
Clarity in the Wind: You Can Trust God and Still Be Disappointed

“How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?”
Psalm 13:1, NKJV

Sometimes the hardest part of disappointment is not what happened. It is admitting what it stirred in us.

We may know that God is faithful and still feel disappointed. We may trust Him and still have questions. We may believe what Scripture says about His goodness while carrying grief over an outcome we desperately wanted to be different.

Psalm 13 gives us permission to bring that tension into prayer. David does not clean up his feelings before approaching God. He asks the difficult questions directly, and yet later in the same psalm he can still say, “But I have trusted in Your mercy” (Psalm 13:5, NKJV).

His questions and his trust are present in the same prayer.

This week’s Wind Check is not asking you to explain what happened or force yourself to feel differently. It is simply an invitation to stop hiding what God already knows.

This Week’s Question

What have I been afraid to tell God because I thought faithful people weren’t supposed to feel it?

Take some time with that question.

Name what you feel. Name what you hoped would happen instead. Then bring it honestly before God alongside what you know to be true about Him.

You may not leave with an explanation.

But you can remain in the conversation.

Go Deeper

Use this week’s Wind Check to move through three simple movements:

Name it → Bring it to God → Hold it beside what you know to be true.

Carry This With You

You do not have to pretend something did not hurt in order to prove that you trust God.

Sometimes faith is staying in the conversation with Him when you do not understand.
