The Freedom of the Next Yes

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free.”
Galatians 5:1, NKJV

Today, many people are reflecting on freedom.

But in the life of faith, freedom is not only about what we have been released from. It is also about what we are now free to obey.

Free to follow God without being ruled by fear.
Free to release what has been holding us.
Free to stop delaying what God has already made clear.
Free to walk in truth, even when truth requires change.

Sometimes we think freedom means keeping every option open.

But spiritual freedom is not the same as endless options.

Sometimes freedom looks like finally obeying the instruction you have been wrestling with.

The apology you need to offer.
The boundary you need to honor.
The door you need to close.
The discipline you need to return to.
The assignment you need to begin.

There is a kind of bondage that comes from rebellion.

But there is also a quieter bondage that comes from delay.

Delay can sound spiritual when we call it “waiting for clarity.”
Delay can feel wise when we call it “needing more time.”
Delay can feel safe when we tell ourselves, “I’m just not ready yet.”

But sometimes we are not waiting on God.

Sometimes God is waiting on our yes.

That does not mean we move recklessly. Discernment matters. Wisdom matters. Counsel matters.

But when God has already made the next step clear, continued delay does not usually produce more peace. It often produces more confusion.

Because peace is not found in avoiding obedience.

Peace is often found on the other side of the next yes.

One yes can break the cycle of overthinking.
One yes can interrupt the pattern of fear.
One yes can move us from hesitation into alignment.

Christ did not make us free so we could remain stuck in cycles He already called us out of.

He made us free so we could walk with Him.

Not perfectly.

Faithfully.

There is freedom in the next yes.

Not because the yes is easy.

But because obedience brings us back into agreement with God.

Wind Check

Where has God already made the next step clear?

Are you waiting for more information, or are you delaying obedience?

This week, ask yourself:

What is the next yes God is asking from me?

Do not ignore what your response reveals.

Sometimes the thing we resist most is the place where God is inviting us into freedom.

A reflection guide for discerning and obeying the next thing God has shown you.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for the freedom I have in Christ.

Help me not to use delay as a hiding place.

Show me where fear, hesitation, or overthinking has kept me from obeying what You have already made clear.

Give me wisdom where I need wisdom.
Give me courage where I need courage.
Give me humility where I need to surrender.

Free me from the need to control the whole path before I obey the next instruction.

Let my yes bring me back into alignment with You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

This Week’s Reflection

Freedom is not only what God brings us out of.

Freedom is also the grace to obey what He is calling us into.

Final Thought

The next yes may not feel dramatic.

But it may be the very place where God breaks the cycle of delay.

Do not wait for every fear to disappear.

Do not wait for the whole road to unfold.

Do not wait until obedience feels easy.

If God has made the next step clear, give Him your yes.

There is freedom there.

Still listening for the wind with you,
